This poem is a synopsis of our infertility saga. It traverses the many stages we passed through as a young couple struggling to comprehend their situation. After many tearful days, and sometimes angry moments, we submitted ourselves to God's will, regardless of the consequences. We had just finished our home study, and I was interviewing for a position with a prospective company, when my wife discovered she was pregnant. I got the job and transitioned into a career much more suitable for a beginning family. Seven months later we delivered a healthy baby boy and 18 months later we heard those wonderful words again. We were, and still are, truly blessed.

Our Gift

A young couple in love
Destined to be together
Wishing to conceive
To consummate their family
Uncertain of their future

They turn to Heaven for guidance
Seeking a sign from their Creator
They receive a premonition
And witness their lives altering direction
Testing their faith in the process

Embarking on an unforeseen journey
They seek a child not of their line
Believing it is ordained
Reconciled to their destiny
Trusting God will not forsake them

Uncertain of the future
However, content to abide his will
They traverse this course
Pouring their souls into the process
With hopeful expectation

Time yields affirmation
Their future has clarity
The prevailing question, Is when?
Only He knows the answer
To be fulfilled at His appointed hour

Then, at the most unexpected time
A miracle is granted
Our benevolent Father
Bestows the greatest gist imaginable
A child is conceived

Once thought impossible
The couple awaits parenthood
Each day draws them closer
All the time in awe of this occurrence
Feeling blessed to be given this opportunity

Anxious for the day
When they can experience creation
To share their love with another
To see the gift of life
To begin a new chapter
